Piotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky: the Potential of Heritage of an Outstanding Scientist-Encyclopedist

On May 21-22, the International Conference VII Semenov Readings "The Legacy of Piotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky and Modern Science" was held in Lipetsk, in the scientist's homeland in the Ryazanka estate of the Lipetsk region. The head of the Centre for Regional Programs of Social and Cultural Development Pavel Shulgin and the leading expert of the Centre Olga Shtele presented a joint report under the topic "The concept of creation and development of the Federal museum-reserve "The Homeland of Piotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky"".

The international conference was held on the day of the 195th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding scientist, who is known for his works in the field of geography and the formation of ideas about the spatial image of Russia. Piotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky participated in the development of the reform of the liberation of peasants in 1861. He was one of the organizers of the first Russian census and had outstanding scientific papers in biology, geology, statistics, economics. The structure of the conference and the topics of the working sections emphasized the comprehensiveness of the scientist's work and his encyclopedic potential.

The specialists of the Institute for Social Policy set the task of forming a museum-reserve of an outstanding scientist in his homeland on the basis of the memorial estates of Ryazanka and Gremyachka, located on the border of the Lipetsk and Ryazan regions. The boundaries of the museum-reserve, its structure, courses of action, functional zoning of the memorial territory were substantiated. The beginning of work on the creation of a memorial museum-reserve could be a worthy event to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the great Russian scientist in 2027.
